Ben Franklin

A Man for All Seasons

 

 

 

    Ben Franklin is a famous American.  He was a statesman, book printer, soap maker, cabbage grower, and most importantly, an inventor.  Some of his most famous inventions were bifocal glasses, the Franklin stove, and the lightning rod.  His famous "kite flight" caused the discovery of electricity. Ben Franklin helped to write the Declaration of Independence, and was one of the signers. He was born on January 17, 1706.  He died on April 17, 1790.  We still remember Ben Franklin daily when we turn on the lights, read a book, and warm our house.  Thank you, Mr. Franklin!

1.  List three inventions of Benjamin Franklin.  How many years did Mr. Franklin live?

2.  Explain the famous "kite flight" in your own words, then draw an illustration.

3. Ask 25 different people in the school to name an invention of Ben Franklin.  Construct a bar graph using the data you collected. Click for the form to use for your data collection.

4.  Write a letter to Mr. Franklin asking if you may come and be his apprentice.  Convince him that you would be a good choice.

5.  Write a paragraph explaining what you think our country would be like today if Mr. Franklin had not discovered electricity.
